Roulette Bet Types

One way to play better in roulette is by familiarizing yourself with its different betting types. There are outside bets and there are inside bets. Here are some examples of the more commonly used bet types in roulette.

For outside bets, players are allowed to bet on these types; odd or even, black or red, dozens, and columns. Most of these are self explanatory, but we'll delve into them a bit.

Odd or even bets are even money bets, meaning the winning player receives twice the amount of his/her original bet. In this bet type, the player is making a wager that either an odd number or an even number will come up. There are 18 odd numbers and 18 even numbers in a roulette table.

Red or black is also an even money bet. In this bet type, the player is betting that either red or black will come up. There are 18 black numbers and 18 red numbers in a roulette table.

Dozens is another bet type which also pays 2 to 1, like the two previous bet types mentioned. Bets are made on the first 12 numbers, the second 12 numbers, or the third 12 numbers.

Columns also has a 2 to 1 payout. Here, bets are made on any column on the grid. The grid in a roulette table is arranged in 3 columns and 12 rows.

Now we'll examine four common types of inside bets, namely; split, street, single number, and corner. These are a bit more complicated than those of outside bets.

Split has a 17 to 1 payout. Here, the player bets on two numbers. This is done by placing a chip or a stack of chips on the line that separates the two numbers you want to bet on.

Street has an 11 to 1 payout. Here, the player bets on three numbers. To make a street bet, you place a chip or a stack of chips on the line that separates inside bets from outside bets. This will indicate a three-number row, which comes in consecutive order.

Single number bets have the biggest payouts, a 35 to 1 to be exact. Here, the player wagers on individual numbers, which includes 0 and 00. You make a bet by placing a chip or chips fully within your numbered box of choice.

Corner has an 8 to 1 payout. The player makes a corner bet by placing a chip or a stack of chips at the intersection of a vertical and horizontal line within the layout. The player makes a wager on four adjacent numbers in a corner bet.

Familiarizing yourself with these bet types will make you a better roulette player.
